The price of natural gas for Portuguese families exceeds the EU average in the first half of the year

The average price of natural gas in Portugal, for the domestic segment, was higher than the average of the European Union (EU) and the value recorded in Spain, according to a bulletin from the regulator, published this Monday.

According to the Comparative Bulletin of Natural Gas Prices, published by the Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE), based on data from the Statistics Office of the European Union (Eurostat), in the first six months of the year, “the price average of gas from natural resources in Portugal, in the domestic segment, presents a value lower than the average of the euro zone, but higher than that of Spain and the average of the European Union.”

In the domestic sector, the country’s average stands at 0.1430 euros per kilowatt hour (kWh), 31% above the 0.0987 euros per kWh registered in Spain and 5% above the 0.1361 on average in the EU.

In the non-domestic segment, the average price in Portugal (0.0488 euros per kWh) was 16% lower than the EU and Eurozone average (0.0565 and 0.566 euros per kWh, respectively), but 14% higher than the average price in Spain (0.0420 euros per kWh).

ERSE highlighted that Portugal is among the countries with the greatest weight in the tax and fee component, in the national segment, while in the non-national segment it is among the countries with the least weight.

In the first six months of this year, it was in Eastern Europe that the lowest natural gas prices were recorded for all domestic consumers (Hungary, Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria), while Sweden, Latvia, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic recorded the highest prices for natural gas. Prices in the European Union.

In the non-domestic consumption segment, the lowest natural gas prices were recorded in Bulgaria, Greece, Spain and Lithuania, while Sweden, Finland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands recorded the highest prices.
