Oil production in Brazil falls 5.5% in September compared to the same month

Brazil produced an average of 3.47 million barrels of crude oil per day in September, a volume 5.5% lower than the same month last year, the National Oil and Gas Agency (ANP), a regulatory body, reported this Friday. of the Government.

Despite the drop in the year-on-year variation, Brazilian crude oil production grew by 3.9% in September compared to August, according to data released by the same source.

For its part, gas production registered a new record in the month, with a total of 169.9 million cubic meters per day, an increase of 7.6% year-on-year and 6.4% compared to August.

The Pre-Salt offshore fields, located in deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the Brazilian coast, were responsible for 81.2% of the oil and gas produced in the country.

Hydrocarbon production in these wells grew by 2.4% compared to September 2023 and 6.3% compared to August, and also set a record for the period, with 3.68 million barrels of oil and gas equivalent produced per day.

According to the ANP, the state-owned Petrobras, individually or in consortiums, maintained its leadership as responsible for 90.54% of the oil and natural gas extracted in Brazil in September.

Today, the Brazilian state oil company launched an ambitious revitalization project to prolong the life and increase production of the Campos marine basin, which has become its largest oil province, and which, days after celebrating 50 years of its discovery in 1974, is already is in a mature exploration phase.

The project foresees the installation of five modern offshore platforms, equipped with new technologies developed by the company to increase recovery in mature fields and reduce (and even bury) polluting gases.

The Petrobras project will also modernize several aging platforms, which will increase their useful life by up to two decades and will be equipped with technologies that improve efficiency and reduce emissions.
