The G20 ministers present in Brazil called this Friday for the need to increase research and development until 2027 of early warning systems for the prevention of natural disasters around the world.
In its first ministerial statement, the G20 working group on disaster risk reduction, which meets in the Brazilian city of Belém, in the state of Pará, highlighted the “early warning for all” initiative.
This proposal, initially presented by the United Nations in 2022, aims to guarantee that “all inhabitants of the Earth are protected from meteorological, water or climate phenomena” by Implementation of monitoring systems and policies as preventive measures. to anticipate the response to disasters, Efe reports this Friday.
In the final document issued in Belém, which will host COP30 next year, the working group recommends that warning systems be “coordinated at the local and national level”, to respond to the specific needs of each region.

According to Efe, the resolution insists that investment in disaster risk reduction is also “a mechanism to combat hunger, poverty and inequality at all levels and promote resilience.”
The signatories of the document also supported the creation of a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative carried out by the Brazilian presidency of the G20.
