The new rate of the Empresa Portuguesa das Águas Livres (EPAL) comes into force this Friday and represents, for most national customers, an increase of 33 cents in the monthly bill.
In a statement, EPAL specifies that the rates were approved and updated in accordance with the forecast of the harmonized consumer price index, published by the Water and Waste Services Regulatory Entity (ERSAR) for 2024, which incorporates in the first tranche a increase of 3.3%.
For the majority of EPAL domestic customers (around 85%), the price update reflects an increase of 33 cents per month, based on an average monthly consumption of eight cubic meters and one meter of up to 25 millimeters.
The area served by EPAL and Águas do Vale do Tejo covers 91 municipalities and serves 3.5 million inhabitants.
In the statement, EPAL recalls that the social water rate, aimed at the most needy customers, provides for discounts that can reach up to 93%, and there is also a family rate, aimed at households of five or more people.
