Luís Montenegro will travel to Brazil to participate in the G20 summit, on November 18 and 19.
The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, will participate in the On November 18 and 19 at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, announced this Friday the presidency of the Executive.
Portugal is participating this year in more than 100 G20 meetings – at the invitation of Brazil, which currently holds the presidency of this international forum – at ministerial and technical level, which will culminate with the Summit of Heads of State and Government in Rio in January.
On December 1, 2023, and until November 30 of this year, for the first time, Brazil assumed the presidency of the G20 under the motto “Building a just world and a sustainable planet”, with social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; energy transitions and promotion of sustainable development in its economic, social and environmental dimensions; and the reform of global governance institutions as priorities.
During his presidency he invited Portugal, Angola, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Nigeria, Norway and Singapore to observe the organization, as well as the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
The G20 is one of the main international forums for economic cooperation and international development. It was established in 1999 and has included, since 2008, an annual Summit, with the participation of the respective Heads of State or Government.
G20 members: USA, China, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Italy, India, Brazil, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Canada, South Korea, Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey and In addition, the European Union and the African Union represent the largest economies and represent about 85% of the world’s Gross Domestic Product, more than 75% of world trade and about two-thirds of the world’s population.
