IPMA extends the yellow warning for the Azores until Sunday

The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) extended until Sunday the yellow warning for the nine islands of the Azores, due to forecasts of “sometimes intense precipitation, which may be accompanied by storms.”

The yellow warning was in force on the islands of Flores and Corvo, which form the western group of the archipelago, until five in the morning this Friday, but was extended until eight in the morning local time (9 in Lisbon) on Sunday.

For the Central group (islands of Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa and Terceira) the same notice was in force until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, also being extended until 8:00 a.m. local time (9:00 a.m. in Lisbon) on Sunday.

On the islands of São Miguel and Santa María, which form the Eastern group, the yellow warning for “sometimes intense” rainfall, which may be accompanied by storms, was in force until 05:00 local time on Saturday, but also extended until 08:00 local time (09:00 in Lisbon) on Sunday.

The yellow warning, the least serious on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation occurs for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
