OE2025. BE gives the green light to the PS proposal and makes pension increases possible

BE will vote in favor of the proposal to modify the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) of the PS for an extraordinary increase in pensions, which guarantees its viability thanks to the abstention of Chega and the favorable vote of the entire left.

This position was advanced to Lusa by an official source of the blocist parliamentary group, after this On Thursday, the PCP and Livre also announced that they will make the socialist proposal viable.

With the abstention of the 50 Chega deputies, Announced on Wednesday by André Ventura and with the favorable votes of the entire parliamentary left, the proposal is guaranteed approval in the specialty phase, which begins on Friday.

The PS proposal to modify the State Budget for next year foresees permanently increase pensions up to three IAS (Social Support Index, which is currently 509.26 euros), or that is, 1,527.78 euros, 1.25 percentage points more than the usual January update.

Last Friday, the socialist parliamentary leader, Alexandra Leitão, assured that this proposal for pensions, which in the accounts of the PS will cost 265 million euros, “It does not question either the surplus that the Government intends to obtain or the Social Security accounts”criticizing the solution of a possible pension bonus that is the Government’s proposal, considering that “it is not even fair.”

This morning, the PCP guaranteed that it will not make any extraordinary increase in pensions unfeasible, but challenged the PS to clarify whether it will also follow the communists’ proposal that proposes a 5% increase, with a minimum of 70 euros for each pensioner.

Chega foresees in its proposal that pensions will increase by 1.5%, without prejudice to the update provided for by law. Initially, Chega proposed this increase for pensions of up to two IAS, that is, up to 1,018.52 euros, but the proposal changed and now provides for the same limit as the PS, 1,527.78 euros.

HE BE wants a “minimum threshold for pension increases” of 50 euros next year and advances with a law change so that all pensions are updated at least by the inflation rate.

Livre proposes to permanently increase, in addition to the annual update, pensions up to three IAS, establishing that the pension update and the additional increase cannot be less than 40 euros “for pensions whose value is less than double the IAS.”

The parties that support the Government, PSD and CDS-PP, presented a modification proposal that establishes that “in 2025 the Government will pay an extraordinary supplement to pensions, depending on the evolution of budget execution and the respective trends in terms of income and expenditure”.
