On HBO’s “Real Time” show on Friday, host Bill Maher criticized the Department of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Board and said the agency’s definition of disinformation applies to former President Barack Obama’s promise that people can keep what their doctors want to yourself, and I wonder “2025” Who do you think will be the king of truth?”
Mahir said:[T]They are correct in comparing it to Orwell and the Ministry of Truth. This is exactly what it looks like. Now that they’ve clarified first, they’ve talked about two things to follow: Russian disinformation, I said, OK, I agree with that. We are not Russia, but they are our enemies and they are trying to harm us. Then traffickers, okay, I get it, people crossing the border, you can give them false information, that’s bad. But then, here from the Department of Homeland Security, misinformation is defined as “intentionally spreading misinformation using false information.” [intent] Cheat or woo”, well, you can say if you like your doctor, you can leave your doctor if you don’t. said, [disinformation] “There can be many forms.” Okay, now we’re going down the slippery slope faster, including but not limited to the two I mentioned. So, I think, as many have said, the government should not interfere in deciding what is right and what is wrong. And my follow-up question is: Who do you think will be the king of truth in 2025?”
