Country Music Association’s upcoming celebration to ban the Confederate flag

At the upcoming Country Music Association (CMA) festival, contestants will not be allowed to fly or display any equipment bearing the Confederate flag.

The festival will take place in Nashville, Tennessee from June 9-12, after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the Huffington Post.

In a section of its website titled “Prohibited Items and Activities,” the CMA said that “any depiction of the Confederate flag” is among the prohibited items. “Things [that] Permission denied Anywhere at CMA Fest. ”

In the statement given Tennessee On Wednesday, the CMA announced its decision to ban the flag:

This year’s CMA Fest is our first major fan event in nearly three years. We have always had rules that protect the safety of our fans and prohibit discrimination, but we felt it was important to further refine our language to clearly say what we should and should not do.[.]

In line with our initial roster announcement for CMA Fest in early April, our event policy was posted on our website stating that any behavior that causes panic for the personal safety of one of our attendees is unacceptable, including any impression. the organization’s flag.

The Huffington Post noted that the CMA statement “did not go into detail about the security issues surrounding the flag.”

Country music star Luke Combs, who will perform at the festival on June 11, apologized for displaying the flag at his previous performances last year and said, “There is no reason for these photos.”

“And now that I’ve grown as an artist and the world has changed so much in the last five to seven years, I now realize how painful this image is for other people,” Combs continued.

The CMA’s decision to ban the use of the Confederate flag follows NASCAR’s decision in June 2020 to ban the symbol at all races and venues, at the request of driver Bubba Wallace and fierce Black Lives Matter in the summer.

As Breitbart News reported in July 2020, a Morning Consult poll found that “43 percent of American voters view the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern pride,” including 73 percent of Republican voters.
