He is the second man named responsible for the deaths of 77-year-old Martha Maria Lopes Pontes and 51-year-old day laborer Alice Fernandes da Silva, which occurred last Thursday (9) at the old woman’s apartment in Flamengo, Southern Region of the country. A 30-day provisional detention order was issued by the judge this Saturday (11) afternoon.
Fugitive William Oliveira Fonseca was determined to be the partner of Jhonatan Correia Damasceno, who was arrested on Friday (10). confessed to the crime and chose Fonseca as the co-author of the crime.
The duo will be charged with theft (death after robbery), extortion and arson.
The arrest was ordered by the capital’s Judicial Officer, Judge Luciana de Oliveira Leal Halbritter, at the request of the Civil Police.
Martha and Alice were found dead in the old woman’s home in an apartment on Avenida Ruy Barbosa in Flamengo on Thursday afternoon.
According to police, Fonseca and Damasceno had worked in the flat recently and went to the property that afternoon to extort money from the owner.
They forced Martha to sign three checks worth R$5,000 each, and one went to the bank to exchange the money and the other took the two women hostage.
After the checks were cashed, the criminals beheaded the victims, set the apartment on fire, and left.
The fire was noticed by neighbors who called the fire department. The bodies were found by these agents, who brought the fire under control. The old woman’s body was charred.
The service had been paid for, but the two painters were demanding more money, as reported by Alice’s son, 27-year-old hydraulic firefighter Diogo Fernandes da Silva. “The job was done and paid for, but they were forcing Miss Martha to pay more,” he said.
“His daughter, Dona Eleonora, said they went there 15 days ago to tell a sad story and ask for more money.
