Searches for British journalist Dom Phillips and local writer Bruno Pereira, who disappeared in the Amazon on the 5th, mobilized local assets and teams from the Federal Police, Armed Forces and security agencies in the Amazon. The two were last seen traveling by boat in the Javari Valley in the west of the province, close to the Peru-Colombian border.
After more than a week of searching, crews at the scene found the abandoned belongings of Phillips and Pereira and arrested a fisherman suspected of involvement in the two’s disappearances. Environmental groups, press associations and human rights organizations demanded the authorities’ commitment to the investigations.
