The results of a study conducted by scientists at the University of Reading, UK, showed that the sense of smell can be disturbed by the effect of aromatic compounds found in coffee, onion, garlic, chicken and pepper. red.
The Journal of Communications Medicine indicates that this study involved 29 volunteers, some of whom had parosmia, who were offered coffee drinks with different combinations.
The result was that those with visual impairments identified annoying odors. Researchers discovered these odors in onions, garlic, chicken, and green pepper.
The study’s co-author Dr Jane Parker said: “We found reliable evidence that everything in our body happens in the‘ head ’, and that the distorted perceptions of smells and related feelings of disgust can be caused by aromatics compounds in certain foods ”.
And the doctor emphasizes that this study may discover in the future a way to improve the lives of people suffering from an altered sense of smell.
