The organization said infections had risen 77% since the previous report was released, to 6,027 injuries, most of them in Europe. But the report showed that three of the deaths occurred in Africa.
The update also showed that more than 99 percent of the cases in which patient type information was available were in men.
The organization added: “The outbreak continues to primarily affect men who have sex with men… indicating that there is no spread of the disease outside this category.”
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the organization will hold a committee meeting to make recommendations on declaring the disease a global health emergency within the week of July 18 or earlier.
A representative of the organization confirmed, without giving details, that Ghebreyesus will now meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. The data shows that there are 802 injuries registered in Spain so far.
