First images of “Moonage Daydream”, the new documentary about David Bowie

You can now see the first images of “Moonage Daydream”, the first authorized documentary about David Bowie made since the death of the English musician and singer, in 2016.

The feature film producer released a first Advance — a video with excerpts from the film, which usually precedes the trailer official — before a first screening of the documentary at the Cannes Film Festival, scheduled for this Monday, May 23. You can see it here:

The film, directed by Brett Morgen, was five years in the making and is billed as a “cinematic odyssey” exploring “David Bowie’s musical and creative journey.”

Although the American publication Variety advances that the film should reach the transmissionin particular to HBO and HBO Max, only in the spring of next year, the production company aims to show in theaters as early as the fall of 2022.

“Moonage Daydream” is the first official film authorized by David Bowie’s family, which manages the artist’s rights. According to the producer, it will feature never-before-seen footage and performances and never-before-heard music, something that is only possible because the director will have had access to vast unreleased footage.

More than a merely biographical account, the film will seek to dissect Bowie’s creativity and the multiple modes of artistic expression, a chameleon not only of song and pop but also of other artistic disciplines parallel to music, according to guarantees left by the director himself.

Brett Morgen, 53, of Los Angeles, California, is an award-winning director who has made such films as “On The Ropes” (1999, Oscar nominee for Best Documentary), “Chicago 10” (2007), “Crossfire Hurricane ” (2012, about The Rolling Stones) and “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” (2015).
