The first edition of the Pop-Up Orchestra, an “international scene of multicultural music”, promoted by the Orquestra Geração, which will bring together 50 young Portuguese and foreign musicians from the Europa System, will take place at the end of the month in Portugal, announced this Friday the organization.
The internship aims to “stimulate creative development and promote the exchange of cultural identities”, will take place from July 25 to 31, in Carcavelos, and will culminate with a concert, on the 31st, in Capitólio, in Lisbon, with the participation of the singers Maria João and Nancy Vieira, reads the presentation of the initiative.
With the participation of Portuguese, English, Cypriot, Croatian and Swiss youth, from European programs of social action through music, gathered in the European System, the internship aims, “through the formation of five ensembles and one orchestra”, “celebrate culture diversity, multicultural musical language, contributing to a better understanding between the different cultures of the participants”.
The coordinator of the Orquestra Geração and artistic director of the Pop-Up Orchestra, Eduardo Lála, states in the introductory text: “Critical and creative thinking is essential for development and innovation. We want to awaken in these young people the feeling of creation and of being able to express themselves with their own voice, to contribute to a better future”.
This internship, the same document reads, “will encourage young people to get out of their comfort zones by exploring musical repertoires, rhythms and melodies from various parts of the world, mainly from Portuguese-speaking countries.”
The Pop-Up Orchestra will take place the last seven days of the month at the Nova School of Business & Economics Campus, in Carcavelos, district of Lisbon.
During the internship, the young musicians are challenged to create their own musical compositions, which will be presented on July 30, in the afternoon, in a concert at the Praça e Jardim das Oliveiras of the Belém Cultural Center, in Lisbon, from 15: 00
These performances are previously prepared with the Portuguese musicians Carlos García, Nuno Tavares, José Conde and Vicky Marques, and also with the Venezuelan Juan Maggiorani, who is part of the Geração Orchestra, and also with Ricardo Luque, from Croatia, and Aldora Velasco, from Spain, in addition to Natalia Bohórquez and Júlia Simões, from the Global Leaders Program.
The Pop-Up Orchestra will perform, on the 31st, at 5:30 p.m., at the Capitólio, in Lisbon, with the singers Nancy Vieira and Maria João, in a concert, under the musical direction of Eduardo Lála, and with a “ multicultural poster”, which includes authors such as Sérgio Godinho, Nina Simone, Cesária Évora, BB King and Arturo Márquez.
