Catarina Silva wins the illustration phase of the Pingo Doce Children’s Literature Award

The Portuguese artist Catarina Silva won the new edition of the Pingo Doce Children’s Literature Prize, in the illustration category, with a visual proposal for the story “The Withered Grandpa”by Daniela Leitão, the organization announced this Thursday.

The Children’s Literature Prize has a monetary value of 50,000 euros it will be divided equally between the authors of the text and the illustration, and the winners will be announced in two phases: first the text and then the illustration. Catarina Silva, born in Lisbon in 1996, has a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, she also has training in illustration and set design and costumes, and works with ceramics. In 2021, the award went to the story “Like you”written by Raquel Salgueiro and illustrated by Jorge Margarido.

In previous editions, the prize allowed the publication, among others, of “Lecturas y papillas”, by António Martins and Duarte Carolino, “O protest do lobo mau”, by Maria Leitão and Pedro Velho, and “O narciso com pelos”. on the nose”, by Andreia Pereira and Ana Granado.
