Folio Festival welcomes Nobel laureates Olga Tokarczuk and Wole Soyinka in an edition dedicated to “Power”

The Folio — International Literary Festival of Óbidos, between October 6 and 16, will feature this year the participation of Nobel Prize winners for Literature Olga Tokarczuk and Wole Soyinka, with the theme “Power”.

The Polish Olga Tokarczuk and the Nigerian Wole Soyinka were confirmed as the two Nobel Prize winners for Literature who will participate in the 2022 edition of the Folio — Óbidos International Literary Festival.

Olga Tokarczuk, Nobel Prize for Literature in 2018, published her first book in 1989, a collection of poems entitled “Miasta w lustraché”, followed by the novels “EE” and “Prawiek i inne czasy”, among other works, translated into 30 languages ​​and which earned him several awards.

He has translated into Portuguese books such as “Others and Others”, “Casa de Dia, Casa de Noite”, “Viagens”, “Drive your plow over the bones of the dead” and “A Alma Perdida”.

Wole Soyinka was the first black African to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1986, and is the author of “The Interpreters”, “Aké: The Years of Childhood”, “The Lion and the Jewel” and “It is better to leave the sunrise”.

The 2022 edition of the festival, which will take place between October 6 and 16, will have the motto “Power” and this year it has two more chapters: the Inclusive Folio, dedicated to cultural accessibility, and the Tech Folio, on the relationship between technology and literature, unveiled the organization.

As in previous years, the chapters adopted throughout the first editions are maintained: Autores, Educa, Ilustra, Mais, Folia, BD and Boémia.

The event, which will feature 14 tables of authors and debates, will have a space dedicated to writers and publishers, in the Praça de Santa Maria, with activities distributed throughout the municipality of the Leiria district.

In Cerca do Castelo, the Inatel stage, the co-organizing foundation of this event, will take place, where all the Folia concerts will take place.

The museums and galleries, the Casa da Música and more than a dozen bookstores will be the scene of debates, conferences and exhibitions, among other activities whose calendar has not yet been announced.

The Folio had its first edition in 2015, with an investment of half a million euros, supported by community funds, and in the following years it had the support of the Chamber of Óbidos.

The scene of book presentations, debates, round tables, interviews, autograph sessions and conversations between writers and readers and the event was not held in 2020 due to the covid-19 pandemic, having resumed in 2021.
