Juan Carlos and a series about elephants in the living room, outside of any controversial safari

The death of Queen Elizabeth II opened the debate: do monarchies still make sense in the 21st century? And will they be comfortable seats of, more than privilege, impunity? I wanted the irony that, on the day the queen of England died, HBO Max launched a documentary series that left Spain and her monarchy in an uproar. It is called “Saving the King”, it has three episodes and the almost cinematographic interest of showing that King Emeritus Juan Carlos is closer to a James Bond villain than to a Disney monarch.

“Salvar O Rei” has more than 50 testimonies, ranging from journalists with different editorial orientations, to former secret agents, politicians, bankers and even relatives of lovers. It reconfirms much of what we already knew about the schemes and controversies that eventually resulted from his abdication, on behalf of his son, at age 76, leaving behind a weakened vise, but it also brings new information and revelations. Many of them deal with the effervescent love life of Juan Carlos, but explaining that we are much further hello read at the hairdresser while doing a mass. What happened between the sheets was not just between the sheets, as exemplified by the blackmail of the actress Bárbara Rey (who recorded six years of phone calls and infidelities) or the power of political influence granted to the beautiful Corinna Larson. And without forgetting the photographer Queca Campillo, I can’t be the only one here with the immaturity of thinking a thousand jokes for this name.
