Hungarian cinema will be in retrospective at the Fantasporto 2024 festival

Fantasporto — The Porto International Film Festival has scheduled the next edition for March 2024 and the program will contain a retrospective of the “Hungarian cinema awarded worldwide,” the organization announced.

In a statement, the fantasy film festival explains that 44th edition, from March 1 to 10, 2024, at Batalha Centro de Cinema, in Porto, a room “that gave another charm to the festival.”

In the program, a retrospective dedicated to Hungarian cinema was announced, giving as an example films by Márta Mészáros and Miklós Jancsowhose film was already highlighted in 2022 in Porto/Post/Doc, and also by director István Szabó.

In retrospect on Fantasporto will also feature the trip of Belgian director Karim Ouelhajwho this year won three awards at the Porto festival with the feature film “Megalomaniac”.

Fantasporto is an initiative of the Cinema Novo cooperative, it had its first edition in 1981 and is directed by Mário Dorminsky.

In a statement, the organization also reveals that “it is laying the foundations for new projects such as, for example, the Fantasporto Museum“, something that brings together the “cinema roots of Porto and its oldest festival.”
