US Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday added her voice to calls for a ban on “weapons of aggression” following two deadly gun attacks that shook the country.
Harris attended the funeral of 86-year-old Ruth Whitfield, who was killed in a Buffalo supermarket on May 14.
This shooting took place just 10 days before the attack on a Texas elementary school that killed 19 children and two teachers.
“On the subject of gun violence, I will say that, as I have said many times, we are not sitting down to see what the solution will look like. You know, we’re not looking for a vaccine,” Harris told reporters. New York Post reports.
“We know what works in this situation. Let’s all ban assault weapons,” he said.
“Do you know what an offensive weapon is? Do you know how offensive weapons are made? Harris continued. “It was specifically designed to kill many people quickly. Offensive weapons are weapons of war that have no place in civil society.”
Harris listed other attacks before saying “enough” for gun violence.
“Everyone should stand up and acknowledge that this shouldn’t happen in our country and we should have the courage to do something about it,” the congregation said later at the funeral.
Harris, who had previously called for a ban on “assault weapons”, also called for a higher background check on gun purchases on Saturday, pointing to more than 200 mass shootings in the country despite it being almost the middle of the year. .

This is Harris’ second call to action on gun ownership in less than a week.
Speaking at the Asia-Pacific American Congressional Institute last Tuesday, Harris addressed the elementary school shooting in Texas, saying that as a nation we must have the “courage to act.”
“That’s enough,” Harris said, according to Breitbart News.
