Port workers begin a strike this Wednesday, which will last until December 31, demanding adherence to the Company Agreement (AE), after the union lamented the “irreducibility” of the ground handling company at airports.
On May 6, in a statement sent to Lusa, which gave an account of the call for the strike, the Union of Transport Workers of Portugal (STTAMP) indicated that, following applications to join the AE, which were rejected by Portway managementrequested the intervention of the General Directorate of Employment and Labor Relations for an attempt at conciliation.
However, given “the irreducibility of the company to accede to the claim of the STTAMP” and “thus preventing” its participation “in any negotiation process” it decided to “issue a prior notice of strike to all the activity of the company at the national level with effect from June 1 to December 31, 2022″.
“The arrogant position expressed by the company demonstrates a strategy of clear attempt to divide the workers” frustrating the search “for the common objective” that goes through “the demand for a fair agreement that allows the job stability of the workers,” he stressed.
The union also assured that “will use all means” at its disposal to “defend the basic values of workers’ rights”.
The argument put forward by the company that it cannot continue to have two company agreements in force has no practical basis, since there are numerous companies in these conditions”, highlighted the union structure, assuring that, during the strike, it will be attentive to all infractions, being that “changes in schedules, calls for overtime, hiring and subcontracting of workers or services or any maneuver that may endanger the inalienable right to strike are prohibited.”
At that point, Lusa contacted Portway, who declined to comment.
