Franken scolded the former Representative. Abby Finkenauer (D-IA) in her victory Tuesday. Franken’s campaign in 2022 was his second run for a seat in the U.S. Senate. In 2020, Franken lost the Iowa Democratic primary in a bid to oust former Senator Jony Ernst (R-IA).
Franken acknowledged the riots in the Capitol on January 6 as the reason for his final campaign. “This time, I think the main motivation was January 6th. As defenders of our way of life, of our standard of living, of democracy around the world,” Franken said, “I see here a great insult threatening from within. . And I believe that I will be a strong voice for democracy in the future.
Franken will face incumbent Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in the general election in November. During the campaign, Franken criticized Grassley for supporting former President Donald Trump.
“It’s getting close,” said Franken, of Grassley. [Trump] just to gain mindless, superficial support for re-election – on stage to hold on to re-election. ”
“I don’t think this is a great feature of Iowa. I believe we support Iowa’s values and principles,” Franken added.
Grassley’s campaign spokeswoman, Michaela Sandermann, said Franken would be “another supporter of Biden’s radical liberal politics” and “the most liberal candidate in the history of the Iowa Senate”.
“President Biden has arrived and look what happened: rising gas and food prices, 40 years of hyperinflation, and a crisis on our southern border,” Sandermann said. “Mike Franken will be just a supporter of Biden’s radical liberal policies that led to America’s apostasy.”
Sundermann added:
Mike Franken will be the most liberal candidate in the history of the Iowa Senate. His policies were those of his former boss, Ted Kennedy, and Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi, not the Iovans. For higher taxes, public health services, and socialist drug pricing schemes. It supports open borders, lawlessness in our cities and borders. He supported Biden’s reckless spending and policies that led to high gasoline and grocery prices and historic inflation across the board. Franken didn’t spend much time in Iowa, so he had a lot to learn. The Iowans will soon learn how radical, unrealistic, and ultra-partisan Mike Franken is. When it comes to protecting Iowa, Chuck Grassley is the leader Iowa needs. He will oppose the Biden administration and fight for the people of Iowa.
Health and education were top priorities throughout Franken’s campaign. Regarding education, Franken stressed “the federal government’s role in standardizing things.”
Speaking about the US elections, Franken believes the country’s policy should “promote maximum voter turnout.”
While Americans are having financial problems due to record inflation and gas prices under President Joe Biden, he does not blame the president. Instead, Franken cited “company formations” and “board of directors” as the cause of inflation.
“I think some of the inflation is the result of companies taking advantage of the haze of the post-pandemic environment where they could raise prices. And you can see corporate profits talking about it,” Franken said. “So from the government’s point of view, I call it the Department of Justice, and I think even the board of directors should do some deep research on this.”
Franken’s views on the southern border are in line with those of radical far-left open border activists calling for unimpeded immigration to the United States.
We must redouble our efforts to increase immigration. We must find a path to a full citizenship future for those here, Franken told local news outlets. “And I’m in favor of finally bringing undocumented people in America to light.”
The Iowa Democratic Senate candidate also called for fewer guns on the streets of America. “More guns turned out to be a bad idea. I am a supporter of responsible use of guns, as we do in the military,” he said.
