After a disappointing primary performance in California, “reality intervened” in the moderate expectations of progressive Democrats, according to the report.

“The far left spoke of the big game at the beginning of this cycle, but reality got in the way. Democratic voters have repeatedly said they don’t like what the far left is selling,” says Matt Bennett, co-founder of the think tank Third Way.

Democratic counselor Kevin Liao said the election was about “making sure people are safe in their daily lives.”
