State Kathy Hochul (D-NY) reported Thursday on MSNBC’s The Last Word that the New York Legislature is drafting legislation to oppose the Supreme Court’s decision to repeal a New York State law that requires “good faith” to obtain a concealed carry permit. He said he collected it. .
Hochul said, “Teddy Roosevelt was president when we passed this law. It’s that long. As for historical tradition, I think that’s enough. It’s in the books. We’ve always been able to protect New Yorkers by this law. It’s insane that they take us back to the time when we should have thought about what happened when our Founding Fathers wrote the laws. This rebuke is harmful to all of us who are at the forefront of the fight for reasonable gun safety laws.”
He continued, “We knew this was going to happen. We consulted the country’s smartest people, our legal scholars. For example, people on the front lines in every city. We have a strategy. We’ll call the legislature, they usually don’t come back until January, but it’s urgent. This is a public safety issue. I need to make sure we can change the law in a few days so we can put restrictions on sensitive areas. We will have the right to stop secretly carrying weapons in secret places. I want to identify these sensitive areas. I assure you, you will not let this happen in our subway. ”
