António Costa has already sent a message to Luís Montenegro to meet to discuss the new Lisbon airport, but the date has not yet been set. The new leader of the PSD already has, however, a position to present to the Prime Minister. At the first meeting of the standing committee, as the Observer learned from sources familiar with the process, He decided that the PSD of Montenegro will require the Government to carry out Strategic Environmental Assessment that had coincided with Rui Rio’s PSD. In addition, the Social Democratic leadership agrees that, for the time being, the solution the most appropriate is rabbit steps (Portela Airport + Montijo Airport), but admits supporting another if the study it requests dictates otherwise.
Luís Montenegro wanted the decision on the new airport to be a decision high school — together with his vice-presidents, or secretary-general, Hugo Soares, and the future parliamentary leader, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento — and, for this reason, he made a decision at the meeting of the leadership of the party that took place in the last second half of the year day. In the middle of the afternoon, after attending the first audience with the President of the Republic, the new leader of the PSD did not hide that he already had a “reflection principle in the standing committee” and that he would “convey the dimension of this situation” to the Prime Minister. He also reiterated the “availability of the PSD to dialogue with the PS for an investment that is strategic for the country.”
