The contract for the study of the maritime transport of goods in the Azores was launched with a base price of 70,000 euros and an execution period of about eight months, the regional government revealed on Monday.
In a press release published on the official website, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility and Infrastructure indicates that the study aims to “better serve each one” of the nine islands of the archipelago.
The direct award procedure aims to contract services for the Preparation of a Study on the Maritime Transport of Goods in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

The minister revealed in May that the Executive abandoned the project for a ship to transport passengers, but will study the maritime transport of goods.
Berta Cabral had said that, in June, the Government would carry out a study for the transport of inter-island goods, with a view to “building a true internal market”.
In the tender, whose specifications were being finalized at the time, a “identical price for all islandsand an articulation of cabotage “with local operators”, said the regional secretary in the May plenary session.
Berta Cabral stressed that the new study for maritime transport “has public service obligations“.
The regional secretary also indicated that “the Government is receptive to improving the system and changing the system for islands that are not well served.”
Berta Cabral responded to questions from the sole deputy for the Liberal Initiative, Nuno Barata, and deputy José Ávila, from the PS, for whom it is “a tremendous mistake to base mobility in the region solely on air transport.”
