Ventura accuses Costa of a strategy to not talk about fires and health chaos

The leader of Chega, André Ventura, accused the prime minister this Saturday of having a strategy of discussing different issues “when something is happening” in the country, such as the fires and the health situation, which “is chaotic.”

The prime minister has that obsession, or that strategy that I would say more, that when something is happening, he tries to set the agenda with other completely different things. This is a well-known strategy, it has already been done in parliament when, in the debate on the State of the Nation, it makes the Minister of the Environment and the Minister of Culture speak when the country is on fire and when health is in trouble . chaos.

André Ventura spoke after a visit to the works at the port of Lajes das Flores, in the Azores, which was practically destroyed after the passage of Hurricane Lorenzo in October 2019.

The prime minister summoned his ministers to an informal meeting, this Saturday, at the end of the morning, at the Alfeite Naval Base, in Almada, for a strategic reflection on priorities and lines of action after the summer holidays.

In this informal meeting, which the Executive does not characterize as a Council of Ministers, The launch in September of the new support package for families and companies will be analyzed to mitigate the effects of inflation and the start of the preparation of the Government’s proposal for the General State Budgets for 2022.

Asked about the call for the meeting, the leader of Chega said that “This Council of Ministers must bring some novelties in the face of the times” that the country is experiencing.

What I regret is that the Council of Ministers was able and had the opportunity to leave a mark in terms of health and firefighting, because that is what the Portuguese would like to hear at this time”, said André Ventura.

In his opinion, the meeting was “a great opportunity” to analyze “health and fire” issues, but “none of them seems to be the greatest concern of this Council of Ministers.”

In the case of health, the Chega leader pointed out the situation in the country with “dozens of obstetric and emergency services closed on the continent.”

We know that there are dozens of more pregnant women who have not been able to have their children in the places where they had planned and the Government has not been able to present any strategy for this, “he also criticized.

Despite pointing out that the fire situation in the country is “improving a little”, also due to “weather conditions”, André Ventura warned, however, of the forecasts that point to a further worsening of temperatures in the coming days .

And we see a completely disoriented government in this matter. And this is very negative.”

André Ventura also recalled that Chega wanted to “make an urgent debate in parliament on this issue,” but “that was not allowed” because Augusto Santos Silva, president of the Assembly of the Republic, “is protecting the PS.”

“But sooner or later we will have to have that debate,” he stressed.
