Scouting survived the dictatorship, was affirmed in the revolution and grew in democracy, says President of the Republic

The President of the Republic said this Monday, in Idanha-a-Nova, that Scouting, Catholic and non-Catholic, survived the dictatorship, affirmed itself after the revolution and became a democracy.

The Head of State visited this Monday afternoon, on foot, the 24th National Scout Camp (ACANAC), which takes place in Monte Trigo, in the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, district of Castelo Branco, where he received by around 18,500 explorers.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa told reporters that the Scouting “survived the dictatorship, was affirmed after the revolution [25 de abril] and grew up in a democracy.”

The President of the Republic also highlighted the service to the community that the Scout Movement provides and that, in essence, represents “the Scout ideal”.

EITHER The AANAC takes place only every five years and is organized by the CNEin collaboration with the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova.

The event brings together scouts from all the regions of Portugal and from various countries for a week to share experiences, learning and activities in the community.

In addition to national scouts, scouts of 24 other nationalities will be present, including 50 Ukrainians.

The main camp is located in the National Scout Activities Camp (CNAE), in Monte Trigo, in Idanha-a-Nova, in an area of ​​79 hectares.
