CNE rejects UNITA’s request to cancel results tabulation structure

The Angolan National Electoral Commission (CNE) did not accept the request of UNITA, the largest opposition party, to annul the results tabulation structure approved by the electoral body.

According to the CNE spokesman, Lucas Quilundo, this was one of the issues analyzed by the plenary session of the Angolan electoral commission, which also met on Monday to analyze and approve the extension of the deadline for receiving the list of political parties and coalition of political parties. competing in the general elections to be held on the 24th of this month.

Lucas Quiundo, without many details, said that the União Nacional para a Independência Total de Angola (UNITA) party presented “an improper hierarchical appeal” to obtain the annulment of a deliberation of the plenary of the CNE on a complaint about the understanding that the party “of the results tabulation structure approved by the CNE, as well as in relation to the observer quota for the general elections.”

“In this regard, after a technical-legal assessment and the necessary framework, the plenary decided not to grant the request,” he said.

For his part, Lucas Quilundo announced the extension of the deadline, until August 3. for the registration of list delegates in the system provided by the CNE for this purposewhich ended on July 30.

The CNE spokesman stressed that this request for an extension of the deadline was made by the Humanist Party of Angola, which is competing in this year’s general elections, due to operational difficulties with the teams.

So, in order to allow the greatest number of delegates to register at the voting tables, the plenary session unanimously decided to extend the term, which ends up benefiting even those concurrent political formations that did not request the term,” stressed. .

Lucas Quilundo highlighted that the provisional information shows that the political formations obtained a very high percentage of delegates on the list.

Angola will hold its fifth general elections on the 24th of this month with the participation of seven political parties and one party coalition.
