Mayor of Coimbra says that Urban Transport does not have a good image

The mayor of Coimbra, José Manuel Silva, reaffirmed this Monday that it is necessary to change the management model of the Municipal Urban Transport Services (SMTUC), which, in his opinion, “They don’t even have a good image” with people.

No matter how much you ask for and demand timely optimization and planning, the internal circuits [dos SMTUC] they don’t work as they should“, said José Manuel Silva, elected by the Together We Are Coimbra coalition, which brings together PSD, CDS, PPM, Volt, RIR, Aliança and Nós, Cidadãos.

In a session in which an opposition councilor, the socialist Regina Bento, raised criticism and several questions about the current situation and the future of the SMTUC, the President of the Executive reiterated that “It is necessary to change and improve” the management of public transport.

We cannot keep the SMTUC in its current state, which the SMTUC employees know well and do not want either, because they have conscience and professional pride,” he added, regretting that there are “those who defend tenure and that everything remains the same.”

For José Manuel Silva, “no institution works well without good management, without timely and quality planning.”

People complain about transportation, most of them rightly so, so the SMTUC doesn’t even have a good image among people, because of the multiple failures,” he said.

With the planned internalization of the current Municipal Services, insisted the Mayor, “the SMTUC is being developed, making them better, preparing them for the future.”

“It’s been eight years since there was a strike at the SMTUC. President José Manuel Silva achieved the feat of provoking a workers’ strike, even before completing the first year of mandate“, criticized Regina Bento.

Union maintains strike in Urban Transport of Coimbra for August

During the strike earlier this month, “there was no concern on the part of the presidentunaware of the problems that a strike in the SMTUC generates for people who need public transportation and who have already paid for their passes,” he added.

“We also did not see any negotiation action by the municipal executive with the workers who only legitimately want the Chamber to comply with the collective bargaining agreement (ACEP) negotiated and signed with all the unions that represent the SMTUC workers,” Regina said. Bento.

In your opinion, “it is not lightly that the SMTUC workers have gone on strikebecause, as in any strike, it implies loss of remuneration.”
