The United States congratulates the “people of Brazil” on the bicentennial of independence

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, congratulated Brazil on Wednesday for the 200th anniversary of independence, highlighting that “the two largest democracies in the western hemisphereshare “the commitment to support democracy throughout the region.”

“The United States offers its best wishes to the people of Brazil for the celebration of the bicentennial of its independence,” says Blinken in a note released by the US State Department.

“As the two largest democracies in the Western Hemisphere, the United States and Brazil share a commitment to support democracy throughout the region and demonstrate its benefits to all peoples”, adds the note from US diplomacy.

The head of US diplomacy also stresses that “The United States and Brazil continue to work on deepening the vital strategic and economic relationshipand that, “together, the [dois] countries can ensure regional peace and security, promote human rights and racial justice, and build a safe, healthy, sustainable, and prosperous future for generations to come.”

On September 7, 1822, D. Pedro I of Brazil and IV of Portugal proclaimed the independence of the country, which is currently a giant of South America, on the banks of the Ipiranga River.
