ROME — Pope Francis on Thursday urged Westerners to be more open to immigration, insisting it is a necessary measure against the West’s “demographic winter.”
On his return flight from Kazakhstan to Rome, the Pope told reporters that he lost a lot because the West “needs people”, forgetting how to greet immigrants. Especially because of the “demographic winter” that is so evident in Spain and Italy.
“There are empty villages in Italy with only twenty old women and nothing else,” he said.
“Why don’t we pursue a Western policy involving immigrants, based on the principle that an immigrant should be welcomed, accompanied, promoted and integrated?” He asked. Because otherwise “everything will be empty.”
The Pope continues to insist that the West itself consists of former immigrants, including his homeland of Argentina.
“There are less than a million natives in my country, which I think are now 49 million, and everyone else is of immigrant background,” he said. “All of them: Spanish, Italian, German, Polish Slavs, from Asia Minor, Lebanese, all… Mixed blood and this experience helped us a lot.”
“It’s true that things are not going well in Latin American countries for political reasons, but I think immigration should be taken seriously because it adds some intellectual and heart value to the West.”
So when will Pope Francis break the evil Vatican walls and welcome millions of immigrants? When will the Vatican accept unvaccinated immigrants? https://t.co/eawkFWCPdG

“Conversely, where are we headed this demographic winter?” He asked. “The West is yielding on this issue; He’s losing his appetite.”
“We Westerners don’t think we have the power to help other people,” he said. “Are we a little down? Maybe yes, but we need to re-establish the values and values of Europe, the values of the founding fathers and elders who founded the European Union.”
