The leader of Chega considered this Wednesday that “certain self-criticism” was missing in the message of October 5 from the President of the Republic for “allowing errors and consecutive excesses” by the PS government.
“There is a certain self-criticism that the President of the Republic should have done and did not do in this matter, because he, as President of the Republic and, therefore, guarantor of the functioning of democratic institutions, should have controlled and contained some abuses and excesses. of the Government and it has not done so”, André Ventura told Lusa about Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s speech at the solemn session of the 112th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic.
The president of Chega said that “it is true” that the opposition has to do its job, as the Head of State said in his message, but considered that this also “has failed and allowed consecutive errors of government.”
“From our perspective, it is clear and evident that all political agents, including the President of the Republic, are aware that the Government is entering a spiral of growing lack of control, but now containing this lack of control depends not only on the opposition, but also to the President of the Republic”, he maintained.
In Ventura’s opinion, everyone has to make this critical acknowledgment, see where they have failed and improve what needs to be improved.
In his speech, the President of the Republic returned to Portugal a hundred years ago, also suffering the effects of the pandemic and the war, to warn of the danger of dictatorships and ask for progress in democracy, where he considered that “there is a path for everyone” .
