Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, parliamentary leader of the PSD, presented this Thursday the main flags of the party for the General State Budgets of 2023. for all those under 35 years of age -excluding the last section-.
The PSD also defends the update of the personal income tax brackets to the inflation rate forecast by the Government -7.4%. Also in the Treasury, the Social Democrats defend the reduction of the tax up to the 6th level in an approximate amount of 400 million euros.
On another front, Miranda Sarmento also defends increasing the minimum wage to 765 euros, so that there is no real loss of purchasing power.
At the same time, the Social Democrats do not give up on the transversal reduction of the IRC rate in 2023 from 21% to 19%, with a reduction in 2024 from 19% to 17%.
The Social Democrats also propose updating the Social Support Index (IAS) in line with the same expected inflation, which would increase the value of social benefits (such as unemployment benefits, for example).
The Social Democrats recover for this Budget a promise (never kept) by António Costa and defend that everything possible must be done to guarantee access to a family doctor for all Portuguese.
“In the transition phase towards universal coverage”, explains Miranda Sarmento, “access to a medical assistant for all, resorting to complementary contracting or alliance with the social and private sector when necessary”.
Regarding Housing, Miranda Sarmento now explains that the PSD will present “incentives and elimination of legal, fiscal and economic-financial barriers” to facilitate the transition from a variable interest rate regime to a fixed rate; to enable the modification, renegotiation or restructuring of the credit conditions, even with an increase in the term of housing loans (extension of maturities)”; and “early repayment of loans based on existing savings”.
Still in terms of Housing, the PSD proposes “accelerating and reinforcing the program promised in 2018 to double the public offer of accommodation for Higher Education students.”
As for birth policies, the Social Democrats will also propose increasing parental leave to 26 weeks. And, in addition, the reinforcement of the funds to guarantee the universalization of daycare centers for all children, “regardless of the ownership regime of the institutions, as of January 2023”.
