DENVER (AP) — Broncos wide receiver Jerry Judy was arrested on misdemeanor charges Thursday after arguing with his girlfriend at their suburban home in Denver and is incarcerated at Arapahoe County Jail adjacent to the team’s training facility.
Judy’s friend, Antoinette Tharp, told the lawmaker Wednesday night that “something went wrong” with Judy and that she had put Judy’s purse and their baby’s medical records in her car, according to the police report filed in Arapahoe County Court. houses. so he couldn’t get them.
He said he wanted to go back to Virginia, but couldn’t go without these things, didn’t want to give the maid a “mess” to Judy, and just wanted to return her belongings.
According to the document, Judy admitted that she took one of Tharp’s three cell phones and locked several items in her vehicle, including baby food, because she didn’t want to return it.
Arapaho County Sheriff Tyler Brown said at a press conference that Judy cooperated at the time of her arrest and that there was no physical assault in the incident. He said that Judy would be held overnight and would face a judge on Friday morning.
Judy, a Broncos first-round pick from Alabama in 2020, is suspected of second-degree criminal involvement in a domestic violence amplifier, which is a misdemeanor.
The Sheriff’s spokesperson, Ginger Delgado, said measures that increase domestic violence are added to cases where the victim is someone who has or had a close relationship with the accused. According to her, due to the domestic violence amplifier, Judy was unable to pay bail until she was brought before a judge.
Describing the allegation as “a very low-level misdemeanor”, Brown said he held a press conference to clarify a few points, including physical assault.
The second part is the increase in domestic violence and I know that the word “violence” means physical contact. I can specifically say that there was no physical contact between Mr. Judy and the woman in this investigation. It was all about ownership,” Brown said.
“There was no damage to property,” the sheriff added. “Everything that happened was a foreclosure charge, and lawmakers decided it was a good enough basis for an arrest.”
Messages were left for Jeudy representatives, and the team issued a statement saying they are “in the process of gathering more information.”
Judy, 23, was selected 15th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the pros were more disappointed.
In his rookie year, he was capable of shooting 52 passes from 113 goals for 856 yards and three touchdowns. In his first game of 2021, he suffered a high ankle sprain and finished last year with just 38 catches and zero touchdowns at 467 yards.
“There are things you can control and there are things you can’t control. The first two years are over, so I just focused on this year,” Judy said last week, taking a hiatus from her training program outside of the Broncos.
Judy says she aims to return this year under new coach Nathaniel Hackett and newly recruited quarterback Russell Wilson.
