As LeBron James enters his final year with the Lakers, famed NBA coach and Lakers advisor Phil Jackson reportedly offered LeBron James a team trade.
According to columnist Bill Plaschke, Lakers owner Jeanie Bass recommended Jackson make big changes to the team.
I heard Phil wanted to trade LeBron. I just heard about it but have nothing to back it up. There are no records to support this. I know Phil wanted to keep Westbrook and try to do it with him,” Plashke said on the air Tuesday. .
Bass also added that he took advice from Jackson and Magic Johnson but continued to support Rob Pelinka.
The Lakers owner also said that Jackson is a good friend and of course dated him for a while.
“People see us in the city, breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever – there’s nothing romantic about it,” she said of Jackson. “He’s someone who knows this environment and knows the challenges I’m facing and wants the Lakers to succeed, so I know him, he has no agenda other than the success of the Lakers, so he’s someone I can trust.”
There was some feud between Jackson and James.
In 2016, Jackson referred to James and his camp as “unity.”
At the time, James criticized Jackson, “Using that hashtag and if you go and read the definition of ‘team’, that’s not something I’ve developed in my career. That’s not what I stand for, that’s not what my family stands for. I think the only reason he’s using that word is because young African Seeing Americans trying to make a difference.”
It is unlikely that he will replace James in the team’s final year. It is also unlikely that the team will choose Westbrook over James in his senior year. One thing is for sure, LeBron isn’t just playing like he used to.
