Defender Andreas Christensen is leaving Chelsea after a decade with the English I Football League club, for which he made 161 official first-team appearances, the Londoners announced today.
“Andreas Christensen’s contract with Chelsea expires this summer, marking the end of a 10-year spell as a ‘blue’, in which he was part of the youth ranks before securing a regular presence with the senior team, in which played 161 games. (…). Chelsea is grateful for Andreas’ contribution to our collective success over the last decade and wishes him well for the future.”
A Danish international on 54 occasions, with one goal, the 26-year-old center-back moved from Brondby to Chelsea in the 2012/13 season and made his Premier League debut on the last day of 2014/15, triumphing over Sunderland (3- 1)-, in which the Londoners were champions under Portuguese coach José Mourinho.
Loaned out to Germany’s Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2015/16 and 2016/17, Christensen returned to London in the summer of 2017 to win an FA Cup, Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. the next five seasons.
In addition to the defender, Chelsea confirmed the departure of midfielder Danny Drinkwater, signed from Leicester in the summer of 2017 and used in 23 first-team games, before loaning out Burnley, Aston Villa and Turkish midfielder Charly Musonda, Kasimpasa, who he played seven games for the ‘blues’ in 2017/18, and defender Jake Clarke-Salter, on loan in 2021/22 to Coventry City, in the English II League.
The British emblem has already confirmed five departures in the current summer transfer market, after the departure of central defender Antonio Rudiger, a German international, to Real Madrid, champion of Spain and champion of the Champions League.
