Qatar has unveiled the official poster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which it will host for the first time in the Middle East later this year.
A special event was held at Hamad International Airport to announce a poster designed by Qatari artist Butayna Al Muftah, which reflects the country’s culture and heritage, as well as Qataris’ passion for the world’s most popular game.
According to the International Federation (FIFA) in a statement: “For the first time in the history of the World Cup, this edition of the tournament has produced a set of official posters that will increase the atmosphere of enthusiasm and excitement among the fans. to the upcoming tournament, which will be held from November 21 to December 18 (December).
The tournament’s main poster highlights the celebration of football and its widespread popularity in the Arab world by depicting the two components of the traditional headdress for men in Qatar and the region, the gutru and ikal, flying in the air with the word “Haya”.
While the main poster features gutra and ikal, the other seven posters capture the excitement and excitement associated with the game.
Al-Muftah said: “I was inspired by the idea of posters from the collective memory of the people of Qatar. Most of my work focuses on experiences and memories of the past and tries to connect them to the present.” and to document the Qatari folk heritage in a modern way. I wanted to present posters that fit the same context and tell the story of Qatar’s culture and authentic heritage through art and football.”
She added: “I made sure that each poster reflected the celebration of football in Qatar, as the main poster is presented in the form of a gutra and a headband flying in the air in a celebratory scene, which fans used to do in rejoicing. when their team scored goals against the opponent.
For his part, Khaled Al Mawlawi, Deputy General Manager for Marketing, Communications and Tournament Experience of the High Committee on Delivery and Legacy, said: “Many features of the 2022 World Cup reflect components of traditional headwear in Qatar and the region, including the design of the World Cup stadium. Al-Tumama, tournament logo and official amulet + Laib. +, and now the official poster.
