Central Pepe chosen for the “eleven” of the year of the I League

The Portuguese international Pepe, from FC Porto, was chosen for the third consecutive season for the “eleven” of the year of the Portuguese Football League, ​​as one of the most voted center-backs, the organization of the competition announced on Monday.

“The central defender of the dragons was one of the most voted by coaches and captains to play in the competition. The central midfielder joins his teammate Diogo Costa, who was named best goalkeeper, and the Spaniard Pedro Porro, from Sporting, elected best right back, in the “eleven” of the year.

This is the third time in a row that Pepe has been chosen as one of the best central defenders in the I Leaguerepeating the distinctions of 2019/20 and 2020/21, at the end of a season in which the “dragons” won the championship and the Portuguese Cup.

In the II League, Aderllan Santos, from Rio Ave, is the third player chosen for the best “eleven” of the competition, along with goalkeeper Ricardo Batista and defender Vasco Fernandes, both from Casa Pia.

“Having been a totalist in 28 of the 30 games in which he was an option for Luís Freire, the vila-condense central defender scored three goals, two of them on the last day, in a game that sealed the conquest of the trophy. At 33 years old, the experienced Brazilian also made 160 ball recoveries throughout the competition”, highlights the Club League.
