After dropping to 1204 in the WTA rankings and not playing a single competitive singles match in 12 months, tennis legend Serena Williams arrives at Wimbledon with a third Grand Slam title as she looks to arguably the greatest achievement of her career.

The seven-time English champion wished she could end the long wait for her 24th Grand Slam title to equal the record set by Australian Margaret Court.

Rarely have expectations been so high for an American who could become the first unranked woman to win Wimbledon.

Nearly three months before her 41st birthday, Serena hasn’t played a professional singles match since she withdrew from the first round of Wimbledon last year due to an injury during a match with Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich.

Serena has won 23 Grand Slam titles since winning her seventh Australian Open in 2017 while pregnant.

She has since lost four Grand Slam finals and placed second in the US and Wimbledon in 2018 and 2019, so Kurt’s feat is yet to be felt.

Serena will meet in the first round with the Frenchwoman Armoni Tan, who occupies 113th place in the world ranking.
