The bodies of at least 17 young people were found in a nightclub in the city of East London, South Africa, local police reported Sunday, quoted by AFP.
“We have a record of 17 young people found dead at a nightclub in Scenery Park in East London. We are still investigating the circumstances of the deaths,” provincial police chief Thembinkosi Kinana told the French news agency.
The victims are between 18 and 20 years old and, according to images spread on social networks, the bodies have been left lying on the floor of the nightclub, none of which have apparent injuries.
According to the Efe agency, the bar’s Facebook page mentions that the space was reserved on Saturday night for two people’s birthday celebrations.
Families of the victims and onlookers gathered outside the nightclub in East London, a city of a million people on the Indian Ocean, which is about 700km south of Johannesburg.
