Turkey leads the medal table with 48 medals, including 21 golds, after finishing day four of the 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.
It is followed by Italy with 56 medals, including 12 gold medals, and Algeria in third and first place in the Arab world with 9 gold medals out of 22.
Egypt is seventh in the medal table with 6 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze. Tunisia is eighth with 16 medals, including 3 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze. Although Morocco is ranked 19th in the rankings, it has 3 silvers and 10 bronzes.
On the fourth day, Basant Hemeyda won Egypt’s historic gold medal in athletics, dominating the 100m with a score of 11.10 cents, a Mediterranean Games record.
Algerian Bilal Tabeti also won gold in the 3000m hurdles. Yasser Triqui also awarded Algeria the gold medal in the triple jump with a score of 17.07 meters, while his compatriot Zuina Bouzbara won bronze with a hammer throw of 65.45 meters.
Tabeti beat Moroccan Mohamed Tindouft, who won silver, while Algerian Hisham Bouchic won bronze.
In judo, the Algerian Idriss Redouane Messaoud defeated the Moroccan Hassan Doukali in the final of the weight category up to 73 kg.
Mohamed Hamza of Egypt won bronze in shot put and Omar Asr won silver in table tennis.
In boxing, Egypt won two bronze medals thanks to Yomne Ayyad at 54kg and Omar El-Sayed at 69kg.
Nihal Andalusi of Tunisia won silver in judo at 70 kilograms, while her compatriot Alaa El-Din Ben Shalabi won bronze at 73 kilograms.
And the Tunisian Wafaa Hafsi pulled out the bronze in boxing.
Bronze medals in boxing were won by Hamza El Barbari, Abdelhak Nadir and Omaima Belhabib from Morocco.
Eleon Benstriet and Adam Monzer won bronze for Morocco in men’s doubles.
