Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde and another Movistar teammate were hit this Saturday by a hit-and-run driver.
The news was picked up by the local newspaper La Opinion de Murcia, which initially announced that three cyclists, including Valverde, were training on the RM-560 road when they were run over and thrown by the car. An ambulance and the Murcia Police immediately went to the scene, who are now trying to find out the identity of the driver.
The incident was confirmed by Movistar (a team to which Valverde has belonged since 2005) which, however, assures that the driver ran over two team cyclists and not three. In a statement, the team guarantees that “both are fine, without fractures or other major injuries.”
