Famed Marseille goalkeeper and 2018 World Cup winner with France Steve Mandanda has signed a two-year contract with Rennes after reaching an agreement to terminate the contract with the finalists of the French league.

Mandanda spent most of his career in Marseille, playing 613 matches, a record since arriving from Le Havre in 2007.

In a statement, Ren noted that Mandanda “selected his new base and signed Ren to a two-year contract.”

For their part, Marseille said in a statement that “Steve Mandanda and I have decided to go our separate ways by mutual agreement. Marseille would like to express our sincere gratitude to Steve for everything he has done for the club.”

The 37-year-old’s contract with Marseille runs until 2024, but he spent much of last season as a replacement for Spaniard Pau Lopez.

Before completing the transfer, Mandanda underwent a medical examination in Rennes, according to a source close to the case.

He will compete with Senegal goalkeeper Alfred Gomez for a key role at Rennes.

Mandanda took part in 34 international matches for France as a substitute goalkeeper for Hugo Lloris.

The Kinshasa goalkeeper helped Marseille win their last nine Ligue 1 titles in 2010.

Mandanda joined Crystal Palace on a free transfer in 2016 but returned to the Mediterranean club a year later.
