The Portuguese international Diana Silva said on Monday that she finds “a lot of motivation” in showing that the Portuguese team has value and deserves to be in the European Women’s Football Championship, in which it took the place of Russia.
“There are still a lot of people who don’t really believe in our value,” he revealed to reporters after training in the Manchester City youth academy.
The Sporting striker said she heard “unpleasant comments” from opposing teams that “we are a team that you can’t go very farthat you will not be able to achieve good results.”
“We are here to prove otherwise and we will try until the end to prove people wrong,” he said, a goal that personally gives him “a lot of motivation”.
Portugal, which participate for the second time in a women’s European Championship, they will face the Netherlands on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. and Sweden on July 17, both at the Leigh Sports Village stadium, in Wigan & Leigh, in the Manchester region, England.
On Saturday they drew with Switzerland (2-2), but Silva admits that the next match against the defending champions will be more difficult, even with the injuries of goalkeeper Sari Van Veenendaal and defender Aniek Nouwen.
Despite the losses they may have, as far as we are concerned it is going to be a very competitive game, it is going to have a very high degree of difficulty”, he warned, qualifying the Dutch team as “a very physical team, very fast” with players “very good technically and tactically”.
