Former Barcelona star Dani Alves has criticized his departure from the Catalan club as his contract expired this summer.

Alves told the British newspaper The Guardian: “I did not leave sad. I left happy because I came back to Barcelona, a moment that I dreamed of for 5 years.. The only thing they didn’t like was how I reacted to my departure.”

He added: “Since my arrival, I have confirmed that I am no longer a young man in my twenties and that the club has made a mistake in recent years. Barcelona don’t care about the people who made the history of the club.”

He continued, “I don’t talk about myself because my situation was different. I am forever grateful to Xavi and Laporta for bringing me back.”

He explained: “I found a team full of young people with great ideas on the field, but we need to improve off the field, the mentality is the opposite of what we created a few years ago.”

And about his future, he said: “They say that I am old, and that 20 years ago everyone loved me, but now they don’t do that.”

He continued, “I don’t agree with that, I have enough experience, and if we play a big game, the youth get nervous and worried, but I don’t.”

He concluded: “I like challenges, I have interesting offers and I’m analyzing options.”
