Facebook’s Messenger app has more than a billion users worldwide, making it a delicacy for hackers.
Scammers are constantly looking for new ways to trick users into having access to their accounts; That’s why it’s important to stay up to date with the latest warnings from experts.
Having a strong password is also important, as being trapped by a hacker can be a dangerous double-deal because they will enter not only your Messenger but also your main Facebook account.
That’s why it’s important to know how to determine if security has been breached when cyber attackers are well -disguised.
Here are some signs to look for:
Archived chats
When a hacker has access to your account, they are more likely to go to their friends and family to get money from them because they will think you have it now.
And one way for hackers to keep their tracks hidden is to send a message to someone and archive the conversation so you don’t see it on the homepage.
Click on your profile picture in the top left corner to check out your Messenger archive.
Then select Archived Chats from the list where you will see the old messages that have been hidden.
See if there are new people you don’t know
Spam accounts will always try to add you. Messenger should not appear on your homepage unless you agree.
If you see someone you don’t know on the list, it could also indicate that a hacker is using your account.
you do not have a cell phone number
You can add your mobile phone number to Messenger to be able to send text messages through the application.
But it also lets you sign in and reset your password; this is a great way for hackers to gain a foothold in your account.
You can check the phone numbers added to the “Messenger” application on your mobile phone by clicking on your profile picture and going to your mobile phone number.
Select “Manage mobile numbers” and call any number you do not know. If you find any trick you can remove it.
