NBA basketball club owners voted Tuesday to permanently adopt a play-in system that qualifies for a playoff berth and to tighten laws on teams making deliberate mistakes to prevent scoring during quick rebounds starting in the 2022-2022 season. 2023.

The decision was made following unanimous recommendations from the NBA competition committee regarding modifications related to the two systems.

The league organizers bet on a play-in system at the start of one season (2020-2021), ahead of a new one for an additional season in 2021-2022.

This system allows clubs that finish the regular season between seventh and tenth with the highest win percentage in both the East and West regions to compete against each other to determine the seventh and eighth positions that qualify for the playoffs.

Play-In matches will take place from April 11 to April 14, between the end of the regular season on the 9th and the start of the playoffs on the 15th.

In contrast, the most severe penalty for intentional defensive fouls to prevent scoring during fast rebounds, which means “committing” a foul when defenders deliberately do not play the ball, would be one free throw while the attacking team holds the ball.

Previously, in such cases, the law provided that the offensive team awards the ball from outside the area.

Clubs will be allowed to make such errors in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime without receiving the heaviest penalty, an exception that allows defensive teams to continue to use foul tactics to stop the flow of time in an attempt to come back or prevent a team from getting a shooting opportunity from three-pointers.

If an attacking player commits a foul during the shot, a free throw is awarded. Faults committed during the game during the permitted time of possession of the ball do not require the most severe punishment.
