The Iranian Football Federation has decided that Croatia coach Dragan Skotic will remain in his position until his contract expires after the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, reversing an earlier decision to fire him.

Iran has re-appointed the 53-year-old Croatian coach following a meeting between the Board of Directors of the Iranian Football Association and the Federation’s Technical Committee to continue preparing the national team for participation in the World Cup, Iranian Tasnim news agency reported. Final for the third time in a row.

Skocic’s sacking was announced on Monday, drawing criticism, especially since it came four months before the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The World Cup draw placed Iran in Group B along with England, Wales and the United States.

The team will start their campaign in the tournament against their English counterpart on November 21st.
