Serbian Mladen Krstajic was announced Thursday as Bulgaria’s new soccer coach, becoming the second foreigner to hold the post, after Germany’s Lothar Matthaus, between 2010 and 2011.

Krstajic will replace Yasen Petrov, who resigned in early June after a humiliating 5-2 loss to Georgia in the Nations League.
The former Serbian international, who signed a two-year contractHe has already been the coach of his country, between 2017 and 2019, also directing the TSC Backa Topala. He had an experience as an emigrant in Israel, where he commanded Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
His first challenge will be to lead Bulgaria from second to last in League of Nations Group C4, hosting Gibraltar on 23 September and traveling to North Macedonia three days later.
